Housing Prices Out Of This World

Well back to work after a nice long Canada Day weekend. I've recently been updated on my condo and it seems that it wont be ready until sometime in September. A far cry from the July 6th date they gave me originally but I wasnt expecting it to be a realistic date. All I expect is it to be done before the first snowflake hits the ground. This raises an important issue for me though. I had been given a rate of 5.07% interest for 5 years with my bank and I have yet to inform them of the delay. My worry is that I wont be able to hold onto this low rate with interest rates going for 5.40% as of yesterday.

Its a good thing I purchased when I did though, over the past couple of months housing prices have been increasing roughly $1300 per week which if I had waited any longer would have put me outta the housing market for a very long time. I saw on the news that in Red Deer, Alberta there are people living in camp grounds because they cant afford the rise in costs for apartment living or able to sustain the large monthly mortgage payments due to the ever rising cost to purchase a home. I'm not sure how these types of things work but something needs to be done. Its ridiculous to think that middle class citizens wont be able to afford a modest home anymore, perhaps a new class needs to be made. Instead of lower, middle and upper class it seems our system looks more like living in the dirt, lower, and upper class. Either way, this will only create more debt for the average Canadian citizen. Its bad enough that the average home carries around 7 credit cards, but to tack on unrealistic housing prices it looks to me like our generation will be working well into our 80's unless we are all happy raising families in 500 square foot condos. It may come down to that.

Career Advancement Opportunity

Its been a while since my last blog entry. The reason for my entry today is, well, its Friday. Its also the Friday before the long weekend so for some reason im feeling reflective today.

I wanted to talk about the new opportunity I was given recently here at work. For the last 6 months or so I have been doing a job that is relatively fun. I worked on developing online communities for a software company which at first sounded pretty damn awesome. The only issue is, there were a lot of things I didnt unerstand prior to getting into the role that really kicked me in the ass. For one, nobody else had any idea what an online community should look like in a corporate setting. I found it very difficult to find someone that could mentor me in this area and as a result struggled to gain traction. Thankfully things have changed. I have become a little more confident when approaching co workers in the office and recently have been given a new opportunity. From what I know so far I will be researching new technologies on the web and researching how companies use these technologies to be successful. Once I understand the uses I can then apply them to my job, and share with the company how it can affect us and the customer.

It sounds fun to me, but im not getting my hopes up. I'm still not sure where my career is taking me. Most likely its because im still really not sure what I want to do with my life. I've discovered that life really is hard. Its hard to stay focused on what is important. I feel like im wasting my life when i could be doing all sorts of other things that really count. Ive never been anywhere outside of North America by myself. Ive hit all kinds of internet sites and watched endless National Geographic and Discovery shows that showcase other countries yet i do nothing about it. There are a lot reasons why of course. But none of them is really a legit excuse.

I wonder how many people in the world actually do what they love to do, and actually enjoy their life. Im not trying to be depressing, im just curious about how rare it is to live life to its fullest. Is there anyone on the planet that has their dream job, that is travelling the world, has a wonderful home and spouse, that has everything they ever wanted and enough money to back this lifestyle up. My instinct is to say no. But what if there are people like this. How do they achieve this, how do they overcome the plethera of obstacles that are thrown at them everyday of their lives that allow them to see the bigger pictures. How do you open your mind and see past the mundane life that most people experience everyday.

Im 27 years old and still have not discovered the secret. I hope soon I will see clearly what it is that makes me tick but until then.

My Dream Backyard

Nice Place Posted by Picasa

Welcome to my life!!!

Im starting a blog for two reasons. The first is my venture into the real estate market. I'm currently in the process of purchasing a new condo and stressing out like nobodys business. Mainly over interest rates and the fact that by the time I finish paying for my home i'll have bought two houses. As you can tell im trying to keep a positive outlook......

The second reason is i'm planning a trip to either Costa Rica or California. I havent decided on a specific location as of yet however im leaning towards a more tropical experience. If anyone has experienced this area of the world please share. As much as I like to learn through experience, a few travelling tips here and there never hurt anyone......especially since this will be my first vacation without the adult supervision....hehe.

Thats it for now, ill be putting up pics of the new place in the next few months and also adding pics from the vacation.
